Fukuoka Holidays

don't miss

Hakata Ramen, a pork and noodle dish that Fukuoka is famous for, plus Dazaifu’s sweet dumplings.

The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival in July, a race involving beautifully decorated floats.

The Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu, linked to a Shinto education deity. Students visit for divine help with their exams.

Famous for its festivals, food and flowers, Fukuoka offers a wealth of holiday fun. Taste your way through the city’s yatai, or open air food stalls, for delicious delights, or hit the lively karaoke bars and clubs of Nakasu or Tenjin.

Climb the Fukuoka Tower for impressive views of the Kyushu coastline or take a walk or cycle ride on the Aitaka Bridge, Japan’s longest pedestrian sea bridge. In spring, join the crowds on a hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, in Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, Nishi Park or at Fukuoka Castle.

Give in to temptation at Canal City, with its 250 shops and restaurants, or head to Ohori Park to explore the Japanese Garden. You’ll find fascinating insight into the Buddhist and Shinto religions at Fukuoka’s beautiful temples and shrines, including Nanzoin Temple, with the world’s largest bronze reclining Buddha.
